Obituary of Leo Maloney

Leo R. Maloney, 81, of Lorraine Ave., died Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at St. Peter's Hospice Inn, after a short illness. Leo was born in Brockton, MA, moved to Schenectady as a child and was a graduate of Mont Pleasant High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran in the Korean War, earning the rank of Third Class Aviation Machinist. He worked at the General Electric, Co., as a sheet metal worker, retiring in 1987 with 36 years of service, where he was also a former shop steward. He had written for the Union Star newspaper in the veterans column. He was a member of the American Legion Post 1005 for over 50 years and a member of the International Union of Electrical Workers #301. Leo had been a longtime communicant of St. Thomas Church and recently Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Leo is survived by his wife of 52 years, Gladys Dea Maloney; one sister, Natalie Robinson of Whitaker, CA; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters and a brother, Helen Meeker, Muriel Dopjera, John Maloney and Katherine Ebert. Funeral service Tuesday morning 11 a.m. at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Schenectady, 1411 Union St., Schenectady, NY 12308.
