Joan P. Maslyn, 91, died Friday afternoon, April 8, 2011, at Ellis Hospital. Joan was born in Cohoes, NY on December 17, 1919, the daughter of the late Edmund and Hazel Fairfield Purcell. She was raised and educated in Troy and Latham, NY and was a graduate of Catholic Central High School. She subsequently attended and graduated from the College of St. Rose where she earned a B.S. degree in nursing. Joan held supervisory positions at Clifton Springs Hospital and Ellis Hospital. She was also employed as an occupational health nurse at American Locomotive, Eastman-Kodak, and General Electric Co., from which she retired in 1987. Additionally, Joan belonged to the Medical Alliance of the Schenectady County Medical Society and had served on the Board of Directors for the Heritage Home for Women. She was a longtime communicant of St. Helen's Church in Niskayuna. Survivors include her sons, R. Mark (Carol) Maslyn of Littleton, CO, Robert A. (Cynthia) Maslyn of Niskayuna, NY, James P. (Cathy) Maslyn of Eden Prairie, MN, and John M. (Victoria) Maslyn of Brentwood, TN; grandchildren, Jessica L. Maslyn and Stephanie A. Maslyn, both of Niskayuna, Laura Maslyn and Kara Maslyn, both of Littleton, CO; grandsons, J.P. Maslyn and Alex Maslyn, both of Eden Prairie, MN, and Benjamin Maslyn of Brentwood. Joan was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Raymond A. Maslyn in 1993, and their infant daughter, Janet. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Daly Funeral Home, Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. from the Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan Street, Schenectady, then to St. Helen's Church, 1803 Union Street, Niskayuna, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Entombment will follow in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery Mausoleum, Niskayuna. Memorial contributions may be made in Joan's name to St. Helen's Church or the College of St. Rose.
