Schenectady - James J. McCarthy, 76, of Schenectady, NY, passed away Monday, December 31. James was the son of the late Margaret Majewski, born prematurely and weighing 3 lbs. in Schenectady on December 16, 1936 and credited his grandmother Muddy for saving his life. He was a Draper High School graduate (Class of 1955), an Army veteran and a loyal US Post Office employee and a union member for 35 years until his retirement. James enjoyed watching sports, going to movies, listening to the the Red Sox on the radio and playing the ponies. His brother, John McCarthy, his daughter, Terry McCarthy, his grandson, Kyle James Gosier; as well as his cousin and traveling partner, Mary Ann Duffy survives him. His other daughter, Denise Leonard and many cousins, nieces and nephews in New York, Virginia, and California also survive him. The family would like to thank the staff at Baptist Retirement Center, especially the nurses on H2 for the kind and compassionate care. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, 9 a.m. at Daly Funeral Home, Schenectady, with calling hours on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in James' name may be made to Schenectady JC and Little League Baseball, P.O. Box 715, Schenectady, NY 12301.
