Obituary of Helen Miner

Please share a memory of Helen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Helen Marie Miner died early Friday morning, December 10, 2010. She was born on October 20, 1922 in Proctor, Vermont, to Swedish immigrants, Reverend Charles and Marie Swanson. She was the youngest of six children. She is survived by her three children, Cheryl Phillips of San Antonio, Texas, William H. Miner and his wife, Debbi of Harrisville, NY, and Mary Miner of Schenectady, NY. She had 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Her last residence was the Avenue on Altamont Avenue in Schenectady. Helen served in the United States Women's Army Corps as a medic during World War II. She graduated from Becker Junior College in Massachusetts, in 1948. Throughout her life, Helen enjoyed helping others, as demonstrated in her vocational choices and family life. After raising her children, she worked for Ellis Hospital as a nurse's aide for several years and then served as a home health caregiver until her retirement. Above all else, Helen enjoyed nothing more than sharing her time and her unbounded love selflessly with her beloved grandchildren. She developed a passion for watching NASCAR racing with the six grandchildren, who lived with her. Helen's children remember her love of hymns and music from the Lawrence Welk Show. Other memories include her love of cats, the time they spent with her planting flowers and vegetables in her summer gardens, baking cookies, playing with their pets, family camping trips, and other vacation trips. She is dearly loved and will be missed, but lovingly remembered and never forgotten. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at noon at the Daly Funeral Home, Inc., with the Rev. Craig Hoffman officiating. Interment will be held in the spring at Proctor Cemetery, Proctor, Vermont. Relatives and friends are invited to call Wednesday morning from 11 a.m. until the service, at the funeral home.
