Obituary of Marjorie Minick

Please share a memory of Marjorie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Burlington, VT - Marjorie Aline Dunn Minick got her wish and went home on October 15, 2012. Born on June 25, 1923, she was the daughter of Smith Charles Dunn and Marjorie Gonyo Dunn. Marje was born and raised in Hudson Falls, NY. She, along with her sister and brothers spent many hours helping out in the family store, Dunn's Grocery. Marje often spoke of her adventures in the store and how much she loved every minute. To the very end, she said she could picture her Dad sitting up on the counter, his favorite perch. Marje attended St. Mary's School and Hudson Falls High School. She then went on to graduate from St. Peter's School of Nursing in 1943 with her RN nursing diploma. Upon graduation, Marje enlisted in the United States Army where she attained the rank of lieutenant. She served the majority of her time at the Oliver General Hospital in Augusta, GA. She completed training for active duty overseas but was not assigned as the war ended. Mom spoke often of her time in the service and that it was one of the best times in her life. After the service, she worked at the Schenectady Hospital for Contagious Diseases in the late 1940s. This Hospital later became Hallmark Nursing Center where she continued to work until 1988. She spent nearly 20 years as the director of nurses and was loved and respected by all she worked with. Mother Minick, as she was affectionately called, worked shoulder to shoulder with the staff, never asking or expecting them to do anything she would not (do herself). Marjorie married Paul Munro Minick on August 16, 1946. She and Bud, who predeceased her in 1986, settled in Rotterdam, NY and raised six children, Mary Armstrong of Charlotte, NC, Paul S. Minick (Roberta) of Scotia, NY, Maureen Prendergast (Tom) of Colchester, VT, Scott Minick of Rotterdam, NY, Marcia Morrissey of Charleston, SC, and Monica (Kevin) Green of Ballston Lake, NY; grandchildren, Kerry Prendergast, Molly Robinson, Scott Prendergast, Jesse and Christian Minick, Kate Morrissey, Olivia, Amelia, and Isabella Green; great-grandchildren, Jack, Lila, Elle, and Anna Robinson, Maggie and Mae Yenkavitch, Gavin Prendergast and Violet Minick. Marje is also survived by her brother, Tim Dunn and wife, Jackie of Queensbury, NY; along with many nieces and nephews. Family meant everything to Marjorie. Besides her parents and husband, Marjorie was predeceased by her sister, Julia Hope Dunn; and by her brothers, Smith Sonny Dunn and Leon Dunn. Funeral service Friday morning at 9:15 from the Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St. and 10 at St. Gabriels Church, Rotterdam, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment, St. Joseph's Cemetery, Schenectady. Calling hours, Thursday afternoon, 4 to 7. You may sign our online guestbook at www.dalyfuneralhome.com. The family would like to thank the staff of the Birchwood Terrace Special Care Unit. Their love, respect and dedication to Mom will never be forgotten. Finally, to our brother Scott, who visited Mom every weekend, provided countless hours of joy, peace and happy memories. You will never know the depth of our gratitude for your dedication to Mom but she did. To the very end she always called you my boy. And to all who knew Marje, we leave you with these three words...Right There Artie!
