Kenneth R. Moorby, formerly of Moriah, NY, and West Addison, VT, passed away Sunday, March 28, 2010, at his daughter Nancy's home in Schenectady, NY. Ken was born July 18, 1915 in West Addison, VT, the son of Kate and Robert Moorby. He moved to Moriah, NY, and worked six years for the Republic Steel Corporation. He operated an electric double drum hoist, hauling iron ore from the mines in Mineville, NY. Ken served with the U.S. Army in WWII. After returning home, he went to work for Stevenson Oil Company, owned and operated by Frank and Hazel Stevenson. Over the span of more than 40 years, Ken became well known by many when he delivered oil to their homes. Ken was a master of all trades. He delivered oil, worked in the garage, built several of the Stevenson cabins and maintained the property. He became a beloved and important member of the Stevenson family. Survivors include four children, Glenn Moorby (Barbara) of Port Henry, Betty Perry (Robert) of Schenectady, Linda Lefaver (Leo) of North Adams, MA, and Nancy Moorby of Schenectady. Ken was blessed with 16 grandchildren, Brian McGrath and Deborah Puskarich (Nancy), Pamela Moorby, Carmen Dewyea and Denise Iles (Glenn and Barbara), Mike Moorby, John Moorby, Alyson Kretser and Carol Ann Lemon (Robert), Lynne Piscitella, Kimberly Pangburn, Donna Cagnina and Kelly Grabkowski, (Betty) and Sam Ayers, Tammy Ortiz and Pam Lefaver (Linda). He was further blessed with 25 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Ken was predeceased by his son, Robert Moorby; his grandson, Robert (Bobby) Moorby (Robert); his granddaughter, Renee Moorby (Glenn and Barbara); and two sons-in-law, Leo Lefaver (Linda) and Robert Perry (Betty). He was also predeceased by his nephew, Gary Smith and his brother, Fred Moorby, both of West Addison, VT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. from St. Paul the Apostle Church, 2777 Albany Street, Schenectady. Interment will be in Lake View Cemetery in West Addison, VT in May. Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for a calling hour Tuesday evening from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan Street, Schenectady. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that contributions be made to Community Hospice of Schenectady, 1411 Union Street, Schenectady, NY 12309 or to one of Ken's charities: Boys Town, 300 Flanagan Blvd., PO Box 7000, Boys Town, NE 68010-9907 or Paralyzed Veterans of America, 7 Mill Brook Road, Wilton, NH 03086-0923.
