Marylin V. Beames of Grand Blvd., died Friday, September 4, 2009, at home after a courageous battle with cancer. Born Nov. 7, 1931 in Farmington, ME, daughter of Gerald and Ruth Vaughan. Marylin was raised in Dixfield, ME. She attended the University of Maine where she was a member of the drama club and the Little Theatre production group. She starred in several drama and comedy performances. During 25 years as an Army wife, Marylin made a home for her family in ten of the contiguous states in addition to three years in the state of Hawaii. She also spent two years in Mainz, Germany and also visited Switzerland, Italy, and France with members of her family. In 1984 Marylin and her mother-in-law founded Vintage Estate Sales, a business that specialized in the appraisal and trade of antique jewelry and housewares. She was widely recognized and highly regarded for her extensive knowledge of early American and European furniture. Due to illness, Marylin retired from her business in 2008. Marylin was also active in the American Contract Bridge League where she amassed more than 4000 award points and achieved that status of Gold Life Master. Locally Marylin served on numerous Bridge Committees and as an officer in Unit affairs. An accomplished and witty speaker, Marylin was much in demand as Master of Ceremonies or Commentator at Bridge and social functions. She was energetic and imaginative designer of decorations, greeting cards, and individualized invitations to the many social occasions that she hosted. She was never too busy to assist a friend or acquaintance. She brought smiles and laughter to her many people. She is survived by her loving husband, LTC (retired) Clare F. Beames III, of Niskayuna; her son, Clare F. Beames IV; granddaughters, Rachael and Sarah Beames, all of Hampton, VA; and sisters, Sarah Drury and Sandra Robinson of Dixfield, ME. Funeral service Friday morning, 10 a.m. at the Daly Funeral Home, Inc., 242 McClellan St., Schenectady, reminiscing about Marylin's life. Calling hours, Thursday afternoon, 4:30 to 7 in the evening at the funeral home. Interment at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, with a committal service on Friday at 12:30 p.m. Memorial contributions to be made to the YWCA (for women's services), 44 Washington Ave., Schenectady, NY 12305.
