Obituary of Alexander Bedford JR

Alexander W. Bedford, Jr., 95, of Troy Pl., died Saturday, March 27, 2010, at Ellis Hospital, after a short illness. Mr. Bedford was born in Philadelphia, educated in Portland, Oregon, where he graduated from Benson Technical High School and was a graduate of Oregon State University. He moved to the Schenectady area in 1941, working as an engineer at the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory. While at the Knolls, he was a design engineer for the Sea Wolf Nuclear Power Plant, the project manager of NR-1 and retired as facilities manager of the Knolls. In addition to his family, Alex's greatest love was to build. He remodeled his houses several times, built numerous boats, and as a family project, his camp in the Adirondacks. No better times were than those spent at camp. Alex was married to Elsie Flinkinger Bedford; she died in 2001. He is survived by two children, Lynne Bedford of Colonie and Keith (Marilyn) Bedford of Columbus, OH; and two grandchildren, Nathaniel and Hilary Bedford. He was predeceased by his sister, Martha Whiteside. Funeral service Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock April 6 at the Daly Funeral Home, Inc., 242 McClellan St., Schenectady.
