E. Thomas O'Brien SchenectadyE. Thomas O'Brien, 79, of Consaul Rd., died Saturday, May 9, 2009, at The Avenue Nursing Home after a short illness. Tom was born in Schenectady March 8, 1930, the son of John J. and Irene Caron O'Brien. He was a graduate of Mont Pleasant Technical High School and earned a bachelor of civil engineering from the University of Detroit in 1955. Tom was a U.S. Army veteran during the Korean Conflict, serving from 1954 to 1956. He was employed by Charles H. Sells from 1956 to 1968, later working for Schenectady Crosstown and Adirondack Northway. He joined C.T. Male Assoc. in 1968 to 1977. From 1977 to 1995 he worked for the City of Schenectady as a civil engineer, before retiring. Tom loved his camp in Charley Lake in Wells, hiking in the Adirondacks, canoeing and photography of the beauty of the nature he observed. He was a communicant of St. Luke's Church. He is survived by his wife, Julia (Julie) O'Brien. They married in 1969. Tom is also survived by a sister and brother, Jane O'Brien of Niskayuna and Dr. George O'Brien of Mesa, AZ and many nieces and nephews. Funeral service, Wednesday morning, 8:15 from the Daly Funeral Home, Inc., 242 McClellan St. and 9 a.m. at St. Luke's Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours Tuesday evening 6 to 8 at the funeral home. Interment will be in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, with military honors.
