Glenville - On Tuesday December 4, 2012 Joan Pochobradsky,78 of Glenville, formerly of Avenue H, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at the Joan Nicole Prince Home after a 20 year long battle with cancer. Born in Newburgh, daughter of the late Frank Fitzgerald and Muriel Leary, she moved to Schenectady in 1943 where she attended local schools. Graduating from Mont Pleasant High School in 1951, she went to work for the General Electric Company as a stenographer/typist in the motors dept. She also worked for the G.E. Co. in Utica in the L.M.E.D. Dept. for 9 years, following her husband who was transferred there for 9 years in 1958, before taking time off to be a mother/homemaker. In her later years she worked for Quality Food Management for the Schenectady County Community College cafeteria for 27 years. She was a long time member of the Mont Pleasant Booster Club, an usher at Proctors and worked on the 60th year class reunion of the class of 51. Joan enjoyed her summers spent at camp on the Great Sacandaga Lake with family and friends. Joan is survived by her husband Frank whom she married in St Columba Church on July 13, 1957, a daughter Sandra (Steven) Solimano of Webster NY, 2 sons Steven (Diane) Pochobradsky of Burnt Hills and Eric (Nancy) Pochobradsky of Rotterdam. Grandchildren, Christopher, Matthew, Daniel and Stephanie Solimano of Webster, Hanna and Molly Pochobradsky of Burnt Hills and Sarah, Bethany and Benjamin Pochobradsky of Rotterdam. A sister Carol Slatterick of Rotterdam. Cousins Michael Leary of Wallkill, Jean Dugan of Saratoga, Beverly German of Va., and Mary Lou Fitzgerald of Westport. Brothers in law John Pochobradsky and Charles Slatterick. Funeral Service Saturday morning 8:15 from the Daly Funeral Home 242 McClellan St. and 9:00 at St Josephs Church where a mass of christian burial will be celebrated. Calling hours Friday evening 6-8PM. Interment Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery Niskayuna. The family would like to express their gratitude for the excellent care provided by numerous medical staff members that helped treat Joan throughout her long illness including Dr. David Mastrianni, Dr. Giokas and Dr. Karen Bleser and Hospice of Schenectady. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Schenectady, 1411 Union St. or Juvenile Diabetes Research ,422 Park Ave. South, NY NY 10016.
