Obituary of James Powell JR

James "Jimmy Bass" Powell Jr., 44, passed away peacefully Thursday, December 29, 2011. Jimmy was born in Schenectady, the son of Cora Bass and the late James Powell Sr., and was a lifelong resident. He graduated from Mont Pleasant High School and was recently attending SCCC. Previously, Jimmy worked for the city of Schenectady with the SNAP program as a carpenter and was the co-owner of Crown Construction with his brother. He enjoyed fishing, riding his motorcycle and playing bass. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Latasha Powell; daughters, Gabrielle Legros, Jamae Powell and Nicole Powell; sons, Marcus and Jimiel Powell; grandchildren, Isabelle and Alex Legros; siblings, Herman Jr., Roxanne, John, Laura, Tracey and Nicole Bass, Michael, Josh, Travis and Swazette Powell; stepmother, Jean Powell; brotherly friend, George Boone; many nieces and nephews and longtime and loyal companion, Dawn Riley. In addition to his father, he was predeceased by his sister, Leslie Warner. The funeral service will be Tuesday 12 noon at Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady. A calling hour will precede the service from 11 a.m. to noon at the funeral home. Burial will be in Vale Cemetery.
