Edward J. Preston, 89, of the Glendale Nursing Home and formerly of Aleda Drive, passed away Thursday, May 6, 2010. Ed was born February 17, 1921 in Wilkes Barre, PA. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps, prior to entering and faithfully serving in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. Ed was a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association. After serving, Ed relocated to Schenectady where he would begin his career at Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory. He enjoyed gardening, working outdoors, swimming, bowling and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Ed was a devoted family man and enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his loved ones and his many friends. He was always there when someone needed his help. He was predeceased by his wife, Marion Hayes Preston, whom he met upon coming to Schenectady, following the war. In 1952 they moved to Glenville where they would permanently reside. Ed and Marion were married for over 60 years. She passed away in 2006. Also predeceased by his four siblings, Mary Blackenger, Helen Herbst, John Preston, and Joseph Preston. Survivors include his two daughters, Linda Wheeler (Doug), and Nancy Preston, all of Glenville; two grandsons, Jeff (Dena) of Rexford and Kevin (Jennifer) of Burnt Hills; one great-granddaughter, Allison Wheeler, and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service for Ed on Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville at 10 a.m. Kindly meet Daly Funeral Home staff at the entrance to the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ed's memory to Community Hospice of Schenectady, 1411 Union Street, Schenectady, NY 12308 or to Glendale Nursing Home, 59 Hetcheltown Road, Glenville, NY 12302. Additionally, the family would like to thank Glendale and Community Hospice for their loving, tender care during his illness
