Homer Cecil Ray, 69, of Mariaville Rd., passed away Tuesday, December 7, 2010, peacefully at Ellis Hospital. Born May 28, 1941 in Atlanta, GA, he was the son of Lucille and Grady Ray. He lived in Georgia until starting his military career by joining the Navy at age 17. He married Beverly Frasier on July 17, 1969 in Schenectady. They then settled in Mariaville to raise their four daughters, Melissa, Melinda, Jeanette, and Jennifer. Aside from his family, Homer is most proud of his service to his country. He served as chief petty officer in the U.S. Navy until he retired in 1979. During his 22-year career he was stationed in San Diego, Jacksonville, Philadelphia, the Philippines, El Toro, CA, Charlston, Rota Spain, and Groton ,CT. While in the Navy he served aboard the USS Amphion, the USS Albany, USS LittleRock, USS Krause, and a brief tour on the USS South Carolina. Homer worked for 19 years in the tech services department at the Gazette Newspapers, retiring in 1999. Homer is survived by his wife, Beverly Frasier Ray; four daughters, Melissa (Steve) Renaud of Mariaville, Melinda (Kent) Moeckly of Polk City, IA, Jeanette Ray and Jennifer (Joe) Dolezsar, both of Mariaville; nine grandchildren, Stephanie, Brian and Lauren Renaud, Shawn, Cody and Garrett Moeckly, Mikayla and Noah Dolezsar and Jeana Ray. His mother, Lucille Ray and Siblings Shirly Tatum, Harry Ray, Margaret Wallace and Jimmy (Beth) Ray all of Georgia. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Brenda (David) Tanis of Massachusetts; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Grady Ray; and brother, Roy Ray; as well as mother-in-law and father-in-law, Sterling and Ethel Frasier. Funeral service Monday morning 11 o'clock at the Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St. Interment, Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville. Calling hours Sunday evening, 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Disabled Veterans Association or the Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation .
