Obituary of George Readdean JR

Schenectady George F. Readdean Jr., 80, of Turner Ave., died Saturday, March 3, 2012 at the Hudson Park Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center after a short illness. George was born in Amsterdam, the son of George and Marietta Readdean Sr. He was a graduate of Gloversville High School, and was a member of the Yellowjackets Drum and Bugle Corp. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. George moved to Schenectady in 1957. He was a graduate of the Manpower Program earning a licensed practical nurse degree. He worked at Stratton Veterans Administration Hospital, retiring in 1988 after 30 years of service at the hospital. Faith was very important to George. He was a former member of the Broadway United Methodist Church where he was a lay speaker, and a member of the board of trustees and the choir. He was a lifetime member of Veterans Post 1893. George devoted years of hard work with the Schenectady Head Start Program. He enjoyed watching baseball and football, and bowled with the Joe Donato Sportsman Automasters League for 20 years. For those who knew George, they will remember him as a loving husband, father, and brother, and for his dry, subtle sense of humor. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Harris Readdean, they were married in 1957; twin daughters, Lyndi (Willi Paul) Readdean of Zurich, Switzerland and Cyndee (Norman Brown) Readdean of New York City; a brother, Ernest (Mary Jayne) Readdean of Schenectady; and nieces and nephews. Funeral services Thursday morning at 9:30 at the First United Methodist Church, 603 State St., Schenectady. Calling hours Wednesday 3 to 8 p.m. at the Daly Funeral Home, Inc., 242 McClellan St., Schenectady. Interment at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, with military honors.
