Peter Rossi, 77, of Van Cortland Street, passed away Wednesday evening, September 23, 2009, at Ellis Hospital. Peter was born June 29, 1932 in Fanna, province of Udine, Italy, the son of the late Pietro and Giuditta DeCecco Rossi. At the age of three, Peter and his family immigrated to the United States and settled in Schenectady. Peter was educated in this city and graduated from the Schenectady Vocational School. During the Korean Conflict, he faithfully served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1956. Peter was stationed in Okinawa and received the National Defense Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. For most of his career, he was employed as a grinder, chipper and stone mason. Peter was employed by General Electric in the large turb i n e d e p a r t - ment, until his retirement in 1994. He was a member of the American Legion. Survivors include his dearly beloved wife, Patricia Jurosko Rossi, whom he married April 7, 1956; loving children, Janet Rossi Herbert and her husband, Randal, of Rotterdam, James Rossi, of Niskayuna, and Deborah C. Rossi, of Schenectady; his cherished granddaughter, Jillian Lacey Herbert of Rotterdam; sisters-in-law, Arlene Jurosko Donnelly and her husband, Paul, of Scotia, and Phyllis Jurosko Wigren and her husband, Robert of Great Bend, PA; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service, Saturday morning at 9:15 a.m. from the Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan Street, then to St. John the Evangelist Church, Union Street, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in the Rossi family plot at Sts. Cyril & Method Cemetery, Rotterdam. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at Daly Funeral Home Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in Peter's name to Community Hospice of Schenectady, 1411 Union Street, Schenectady, NY 12308.
