James G. Ryan, 77, of Margent Court, died Tuesday, August 23, 2011, at Ellis Hospital after a short illness. Jim was born in Scotia, the son of Delbert and Jessie Belle Ryan. He was a graduate of Scotia High School. Jim was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean War and also served with the Army National Guard in Desert Shield. He served 38 years in the Army National Guard, earning the rank of staff sergeant, retiring in 1994. Jim worked at the General Electric Co. in the steam turbine department for 30 years, retiring in 1995. In addition to being remembered for his patriotism and hard work at the General Electric Co., those who knew him will always remember he was a devoted brother, husband, father and grandfather. Jim is survived by his wife of 28 years, Mary Lou Caffalette Ryan; children, Daniel and Cheryl Ryan, Richard, Michael and Scott Peabody and Kellie and Robert McLean; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Jim was predeceased by a brother and sister, Gene Ryan and Thelma Truax. Funeral service Friday morning, 9 o'clock at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville. Calling hours, Thursday evening, 5 to 8 at the Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady. Interment will be in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, with military honors.
