Anne M. Sanfilippo, 83, of Scotia, passed away peacefully Tuesday evening, August 25, 2009, at Ellis Hospital, she was surrounded by her loving family. Anne was born August 11, 1926 in Hazelton, PA, a daughter of the late Owen and Lucille Mann Sharkey. She attended and graduated from Kings County School of Nursing (Brooklyn), where she obtained her degree as a registered nurse. An extremely devoted and dedicated nurse, Anne began her career in New York City, where she worked as a registered nurse, prior to relocating to Schenectady. She was employed by Ellis Hospital before transferring to the VA Hospital in Albany, where she worked until 1974. Anne subsequently went to work for Central Nursing Service, where she committed the remainder of her career to being a private duty nurse. A lifelong active woman, Anne was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Scotia, a member of the Elder Hostile, an usher at Proctor's Theatre for 20 years, participated in the St. Clare's Follies, performed with the Sweet Adeline River Valley Chapter, and was involved with the Red Hat Society. Predeceased by her husband, Arthur D. Sanfilippo, whom she married September 10, 1950. He later died December 15, 1978. Survivors include her children, Jean Cafaro and her husband, Dennis of Colonie, Gail Borst and her husband, John of Schoharie, Donna Diamante and her husband, Daniel, Anne Howell and her husband, Michael, all of Scotia, and Arthur R. Sanfilippo and his wife, Carol of Simsbury, CT; grandchildren, Dana and Philip Cafaro, John Borst and his wife, Michele, Joshua Borst and his wife, Jolyn, Raina Diamante and William Taylor, Kathleen and Maggie Howell, Megan and Laura Sanfilippo; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Winifred Costello of New Jersey and Rita Rocosky of Pennsylvania; also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral service, Monday morning at 8:45 a.m. from the Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan Street, then to St. Joseph's Church, First Street, Scotia, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Daly Funeral Home. Relatives and friends are invited to call. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Anne's name to the Special Olympics, 3 Princess Road, Lawrenceville, New Jersey 08648. Anne exuded boundless energy in all her activities. She was always a very compassionate and caring person who brought a smile to everyone's face. Her fondest memories were when she was surrounded by her beloved family. A true angel in everyone's heart.
