Obituary of Jessie Sasinowski

Please share a memory of Jessie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
The family of Jessie Tanski Sasinowski greatly mourns the loss of this wonderful woman. A loss that is today, Jesus' celebration. Jessie, 92, passed away Tuesday morning, April 27, 2010. Jessie was born May 10, 1917 to Wincenty and Maryanna (Zeloskowski) Tanski in Schenectady. For most of her pre-teen years she was raised on the family farm in Alplaus, which is now a portion of the 109th Air National Guard base. Jessie attended St. Adalbert School and graduated from Mont Pleasant High School. Among other interests, she continued her education in sign language and computer programming. As a teenager growing up during The Depression, Jessie worked at the Wilson Factory sewing major league baseballs, the science labs at General Electric, hairdressing, and acted as a homemaker. She met the man of her dreams and on October 28, 1939 married Matthew H. Sasinowski. Jessie devoted the next 27 years to raising her family, establishing a remarkable home filled with fond memories. Upon the death of her beloved Matt, she returned to work. In 1979, Jessie retired from her position as senior cataloguer at the Schenectady County Public Library. She committed her retirement to spending much time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Together, they enjoyed Story Hour at the library, museums, parks, fishing, ice skating, lunches, and overnight sleepovers. Jessie shared countless years volunteering in her community. A few examples of her affection for Schenectady included: assisting at Sunnyview Rehabilitation in speech and hearing, St. Clare's Auxiliary, Schenectady Girls Club instructing co-eds, sewing, knitting, crocheting and hairdressing, senior companion at O.D. Heck, Christ Child Crocheting & Knitting, and her most beloved St. Anthony's Church at its annual "Festa". Additionally, and most importantly, her family will remember her as a woman who did not know the word "no", when it involved helping anyone. A devout Roman Catholic, she worshipped the Blessed Mother through her daily rosaries and annual crowning in her yard. This event always captured and was attended by family, neighbors and friends, and was subsequently followed by a great party. Jessie's "down time" was spent traveling throughout the U.S., Canada, and The Islands. Her insatiable appetite for history, exploring and passion for knowledge was fulfilled in all her activities and adventures. Jessie's yard and front porch were the frequent setting for gatherings filled with stories, laughter, problem-solving, comfort and parties. One of her last requests was to plan a party and sing. She is survived by her loving children and their spouses, Bernadette Krosky, Matthew (Phil) Sasinowski and Camille Sasinowski; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great- great-grandson; sister-in-law, Jozefa Sasinowski; nieces, nephews and cherished neighbors on Goose Hill. In addition to her husband who passed away August 4, 1966, she is also predeceased by her siblings, William, Henry, Edmund, Stanley, Reverend Edward J., Chester (John), Mable Woodka and Catherine Chlopecki. Funeral service will begin 8:15 a.m. Saturday from the GLEASON FUNERAL HOME, 730 Union Street, Schenectady, then to beloved St. Anthony's Church, Seward Place, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Interment will follow in the family plot in St. Adalbert Cemetery, Rotterdam. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at GLEASON FUNERAL HOME, Friday from 5 to 8 pm. In lieu of flowers, it has been suggested that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to the Schenectady City Mission, PO Box 760, Schenectady, NY 12301.
