John Sayers Obituary

John F. Sayers, 87, of Peters Lane, died Monday, July 13, 2009, at Ellis Hospital, peacefully. Mr. Sayers was born in Strafford, Ontario, Canada, moved to the Buffalo area as a child and was a graduate of Catholic University in Washington D.C. with a Bachelor of Arts in architecture. John was a U.S. World War II Army veteran. For many years he was an architect with the New York State University Construction Fund, that began with Governor Rockefeller, retiring several years ago. John was an accomplished and award-winning photographer and also an artist. He displayed his water colors near his summer home in Washington Pond, ME, and he belonged to the local brush and palette group. John is survived by his wife of 65 years, Margaret Cook Sayers; one daughter, Diane (Col. Mark, USMC) Vanous of Virginia Beach, VA; one sister, Helen Marie Sayers; and two grandchildren, Kevin and Katherine. Funeral service Monday morning, 10 o'clock at the Daly Funeral Home, Inc., 242 McClellan St., Schenectady. Calling hours Sunday afternoon from 4 to 6 at the funeral home. Interment will be in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, with military honors.
