Obituary of James Schaninger

Schenectady - James "Jim" Schaninger, 80, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at Ellis Hospital. Jim was born in Schenectady, the son of the late Francis and Kathryn (Carroll) Schaninger and was a lifelong resident. He graduated from Nott Terrace High School and earned his bachelor's degree from Siena College. Jim served in the US Army during the Korean War having been stationed in Germany. He worked for LeValley McLeod as a successful salesman for 40 years. After that, Jim was a court attendant for Schenectady County Supreme Court for almost 20 years. He was an avid golfer and member of the Foster Ave. Athletic Club, which was based out of and conceived at John Riccitello Restaurant. Jim is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ellen (Scott) Schaninger, whom he married in New York City April 10, 1959. He is also survived by his children, Susan (Bill) Adair and Michael (Sheila) Schaninger; grandchildren, Danielle Adair, Erica Schaninger and Joshua Schaninger; cousin, Mary Jo (Peter) Teresco and many relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held Sunday 4 p.m. at Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady. Calling hours will precede the service from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
