Obituary of Katherine Schmidt
Please share a memory of Katherine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Katherine Tebo Hoopes Schmidt died at 86 in her sleep on March 14, in West Hartford, CT. K.T. had slowly lost the use of her legs over the years to an unspecified neurological disease but maintained her positive attitude and loving demeanor through it all. An avid reader, dog lover, gardener and outdoors enthusiast, she wil be missed by all who had the pleasure to meet her. She leaves behind her devoted husband of 63 years, George S. Schmidt, to whom she was introduced to on a Delaware beach after WWII. She put up with George's passion for fishing but really loved the camping, outdoors and ocean as much as he did. K.T. is also survived by her two sons and two daughters, Lat Schmidt of Schenectady, NY, and partner, Cindy Thomson, Kit Howe and husband, Peter of Jericho, VT, Phil Schmidt and wife, Roberta of West Hartford, CT and Sarah Fisher and husband, Jim of New Haven, CT; as well as six grandchildren, Daniel Schmidt (Joanna), Alexis Gagne (Joseph), CV Howe (Alexandra), Lydia Howe, Greg Schmidt and Eric Schmidt. K.T. was active in the community and her church, serving on the vestry of St. George's Episcopal Church, on the Environmental Clearinghouse of Schenectady and in the Junior League. She was elected Master Gardener Volunteer of the Year in 1995, and for many years in the late 1980s and 1990s she organized the AIDs luncheon to benefit the HIV+ members of the Schenectady community. A Rite of Christian Burial at Saint George's Episcopal Church, Ferry Street, Schenectady is planned for Monday, March 19 at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow at 2 o'clock in Parkview Cemetery. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the City Mission of Schenectady, or to Saint Georges Episcopal, both in Schenectady, NY. Arrangements by the Daly Funeral Home, Inc., 242 McClellan St., Schenectady.
