Obituary of John Schumacher

John J. Schumacher, 75, of Merritt Island, FL, died unexpectedly, Sunday, January 16, 2011. He was born on January 5, 1936 in Schenectady, the son of John Henry and Mildred Schumacher. He attended Schenectady schools and was a longtime member of Laborers Local 157, serving for many years as treasurer, retiring in 1995. He was a gifted carpenter, electrician and plumber. He enjoyed his summer home on Sacandaga Lake and winters in Merritt Island. John married his childhood sweetheart, Peg in 1958, who predeceased him in 2002. He was a devoted family man always placing his family and friend first. He is survived by his three devoted daughters, Joanne (Mark) Schumacher Schmidt of Wasilla, AK, Patricia (Doug) Hopkins of Rotterdam and Peggy Schumacher of Round Lake; four grandchildren, Dustin, Kevin, Megan and Michael; three great-grandchildren, Mason, Nolan and Jolie; a sister, Jean (Don) Williams of Clifton Park; his special sister-in-law, Karen (Wink) Hinkley of Grand Gorge, and many nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his brothers, Vincent and Donald, and sisters, Marie, Clarissa and Barbara. Funeral service Saturday morning 10 o'clock at the Daly Funeral Home, Inc., 242 McClellan St., Schenectady. Calling hours Friday evening, 5 to 7 at the funeral home. Interment Memory Gardens, Colonie, where he will join his wife, Peg.
