Schenectady - Otto Traugott Schwarz, 95, passed on after a brief stay in Albany Medical Center on January 10th, 2013. Otto was born of Swiss parents, April 22, 1917 in Amsterdam, New York. He lived most of his life in Schenectady, with the exception of a few years working in Connecticut at Pratt and Whitney during World War II. After the war he returned to Schenectady with his wife, Myra and two small children to make a permanent home for his family and his business. Otto spent close to 50 years as an auto mechanic, most of them with his business partner, Harry Mosher. Schwarz and Mosher was a well known local garage and gas station first in Woodlawn and later on Central State Street. Otto was also an avid sportsman and early member of the Woodlawn Sportsmen's Club and the Mont Pleasant Shooting Club. He loved to fish and always had a boat for both family pleasure and trophy fishing. He was a member of the Sacandaga Boat Club for about 15 years. When he retired he worked as a senior aide for Schenectady County and in his 80s became proficient in early computer DOS systems. In July of 1978 he moved to Pattersonville, NY. While in Pattersonville he attended the Woestina Reformed Church and was a church deacon, and an elder. He also had time and space to garden and grow prize roses. Otto was predeceased by his wife, Myra of over 60 years; daughter, Sharon Schwarz from Santa Cruz, CA; daughter, Sandra Schwarz from Schenectady; and granddaughter, Sonja Schwarz from Latham, NY. He is survived by his daughters, Janice Willard of Santa Fe, NM, Judy Schwarz from Schenectady; granddaughter, Tracy Caldwell, married to Jason Caldwell of Latham, NY; and great-grandson, Zachary Caldwell. The funeral service will be Monday, 12 noon at Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady. A calling hour will precede the service from 11 a.m. to 12 noon at the funeral home. Followed by interment at Memory Gardens.
