Obituary of Christos Sokaris

Christos Sokaris, age 80, entered eternal life on Saturday, October 29th, 2011, at his home with his family and pets by his side. Christos was born on the island of Kefalonia, Greece June 18th, 1931. The son of the late Evangelos and Katerina (Klaouthatou) Sokaris, he was one of six children. He moved his family to the United States in 1967 with $20 in his pocket and the aspiration to live the American dream. Christos served in the Greek military in the Special Forces unit. Christos was an independent chef and worked at a number of restaurants in the Albany Capital District. After his retirement he spent every summer on the island where he was born, in the house he built with his own hands. Christos was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Schenectady. Husband of Ourania, father of Gerasimos Mike (Kathryn) Sokaris, beloved Papou of Xrysanthi and godfather to several in Greece. He is also survived by many extended family and dear friends. Funeral services will be on Thursday, November 3rd 2011, 10 a.m. at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 107 Clinton Ave., Schenectady. Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may also call at Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady, on Wednesday, from 5 to 8 p.m. Trisagion service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations in Christos' memory may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church.
