Obituary of Stuart Spitz

Stuart J. Spitz, 63, of John Paul Court, Niskayuna, died suddenly on Monday morning, November 15, 2010. Born in Schenectady, Stuart was a graduate of Linton High School and attended the Junior College of Albany. He was vice president of the O.K. Shops, Inc., one of the first catalog discount businesses in the Capital Region which was started by his parents. He later worked for the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance and the OTB Corporation. He retired last year. He was a former member of the Walhalla Country Club and its golf league, and a former member of the Union Street Merchants Group. Stuart was the son of the late Milton (Mickey) and Harriet (Sherman) Spitz. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Judith DiGiorgio Spitz, and cherished and loving daughter, Lisa Spitz of Syracuse. He is also survived by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Angelina DiGiorgio of Rotterdam; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Roslyn and Robert Donlon of Niskayuna; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Angela and Tom Darby of Guilderland and nephew, Matthew Darby. He will be missed by his cousins, Janice Albee of Schenectady, Annie Alkinburgh and her husband, Lester, of Schenectady, David Fialkoff and his wife, Pamela, of Guilderland, Donna Wildove of Colonie, and many wonderful family and friends. He was of the Jewish faith. A graveside service will be held Thursday, November 18, at 11 a.m. at the Free Jewish Cemetery, Schermerhorn St, Rotterdam. There will be no calling hours.
