Rotterdam - Rose Margaret Starin, 86, died Wednesday, August 29, 2012, at Ellis Hospital, after a brief illness. Mrs. Starin was born in Utica, the daughter of George and Frances Coury, on June 18, 1926. She was a graduate of Proctor High School and St. Elizabeth's School of Nursing, Class of 1948. She moved to Rotterdam and was employed by St. Clare's Hospital from 1950 to 1997. Rose was an energetic and active woman. She enjoyed traveling to Lebanon to visit her son and family, she volunteered at the Ellis Hospital Boutique and worked at the annual St. Gabriel's Festival, where she will be sorely missed. She was an active communicant of St. Gabriel's Church and a member of the Women's Club. She was predeceased by her husband, George A. Starin, Jr. They married on October 21, 1950; he died August 5, 1982. Rose is survived by her children, Margaret 'Peggy' Giroux of Rotterdam, Rev. Mark (Maryann) Starin of Mounsif, Lebanon, Timothy (Marjorie) Starin of Schenectady and Scott (Debora) Starin of Lafayette, CO; a sister, Mildred Coury of Utica; and six grandchildren, David (Melissa) Starin, Nicole and Matthew Starin, Lisa Starin, Angelica (Adam) Hardt and Alexander Starin. The one eyed former stary feline (her free $2,000 cat) she insisted upon calling Muffy misses her very much. Rose also has many cousins, extended family and a multitude of dear and cherished friends. Rose was eagerly anticipating the birth of her first great-granddaughter, due September 2. She was predeceased by her sister, Esther; and brother, Joseph Coury. Funeral service Thursday morning 9:15 from the Daly Funeral Home, Inc., 242 McClellan St., Schenectady and 10 a.m. at St. Gabriel's Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours Wednesday evening 5 to 7 at the funeral home. Interment Memory Garden's Cemetery, Colonie. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital , 505 N. Parkway, Memphis, TN 38105, Maryknoll Sisters, Pinebridge Rd., Maryknoll, NY 10545 or Guiding Eyes for the Blind, 361 Rt. 164, Patterson, NY 12563. Rose's family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff of Ellis Hospital Emergency Room and the kind and caring nurses and doctors of the ICU, especially Liz Timms, Laura Stanton and Dr. Ashley.
