Obituary of Marcella Stewart

Schenectady - Marcella Lorraine Kateri Stewart transitioned from this life on April 29, 2012, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. The family is thankful to the many friends, family and caregivers who expressed their love and support during her illness and after her passing. The viewing and visitation will be held on Friday, May 4, 2012, 9 to 10 a.m. at the Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady, NY 12304. The funeral service will follow from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Marcella was born on May 28, 1947, in New York City, to the late Mary Elizabeth Rawlins and the late Millard Fillmore Stewart. She graduated from Mont Pleasant High School in Schenectady, NY and went on to attain an A.B. in sociology from Cornell University, and a master's in public administration from the State University of New York.Marcella worked for the New York State Department of Transportation; and after more than 39 years of dedicated service, she retired in 2003. Marcella will be remembered by those she touched for her loving and outgoing personality, infectious sense of humor, and quick wit. Her love of books, and her curiosity about almost everything, provided her with a diverse knowledge base, that gave her the ability, and provided her the pleasure of engaging almost anyone in conversation and she did. Marcella leaves behind to cherish her memory, her brother, G. Lamont Blackstone; companion, A. David Chaires, and a host of relatives and friends.
