Obituary of Doris Swart

Doris Swart-Slingerlands Doris Swart, 88, formerly of Lishakill Rd., Niskayuna, passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Doris was born in Schenectady, the daughter of the late William and Esther Schermerhorn, and was a lifelong area resident. She graduated from Nott Terrace High School and worked for General Electric for many years as an account clerk. Doris was a water aerobic instructor at the Jewish Community Center, a communicant and Eucharistic Minister at St. Helen's Church, and a volunteer at St. Helen's School, but above all she was a warm, caring woman who loved helping family and friends. She is survived by her children, Sandra (Francis) Bourque of New Hampshire, Sharon (Victor) Pieronek of Charlton and Thomas (fiancée Terri Bellair) Swart of Colonie; six grandchildren, Sarah, Emily, Katie, Nichole, Kiahna and Thomas; one great-grandchild and Terri's children, Cody, Alexandra, Ian and Jennifer, whom all lovingly called Doris Grandma. Funeral services will be Friday 8:15 a.m. from the Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady, then to St. Helen's Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Calling hours will be Thursday 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Schenectady Right To Life or the St. Coleman's Home
