Obituary of Leonard Tomasek

Leonard (Lenny) Tomasek, 73, passed away on Monday, May 10, 2010, at Ellis Hospital surrounded by his family and friends after a nine-year battle with lung cancer. Lenny was born on July 15, 1936, in Schenectady, and he was the son of Stanley and Eva Tomasek. He graduated from Mont Pleasant High School in 1954 where he played football. Lenny was also a member of the Rotterdam Elks. In 1964, Lenny started his local flooring company, Towne Decorators in Schenectady. Family and friends remember him years ago selling carpet samples out of the back of his truck as a start to his now prospering business. He enjoyed golfing, going to the casino and spending time with his family and friends. Not only was Lenny a well-known businessman within our community but also a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, who were very proud to call him their grandfather. He attended every event, grinning ear to ear, as he was so proud of his grandchildren and their various accomplishments. Lenny has left us, however, although gone, he will never be forgotten. Lenny is survived by his loving wife of 53 years (or as he liked to call her, his "Bride"), Shirley; five children, Deborah and Mark Tomasek, Geri (Larry) Glasser, Patty (Tony) Tommasone and David (Anita) Tomasek; and nine grandchildren, Valerie (fiance, Kenny Garrison) and Larry Glasser, Ashley and Nicholas Tommasone, Renee, Kayla, Shane, David and Chase Tomasek. Funeral Thursday morning, May 13th at 9:15 a.m. from the Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellen Street and 10 a.m. from Our Lady of Assumption Church, Princetown Road, Rotterdam, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 12th at the Daly Funeral Home. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
