Obituary of Geraldine Tucker

Geraldine "Gerry" Toland Tucker was the daughter of the late James Toland and Timotha Lee Sutton Toland. She was born on June 27, 1935 in Schenectady, NY. After a long illness, the Lord called her home on November 24, 2010. In 1930, her family migrated to Schenectady and joined Duryee Memorial AME Zion Church, where she was a member for more than 50 years. In 1953, she graduated from the former Nott Terrace High School. Gerry met and married the love of her life, James Tucker. They were married for 57 years and were blessed to have raised nine beautiful children. Gerry was one of the first employees of the Hamilton Hill Arts Center. Gerry is fondly remembered by the Cunningham family and Art Center staff. Everybody else called her Gerry; however, her sisters had a special name for her, Corky. She and her sisters were members of the Carver Chorale Ensemble and they performed at Carnegie Hall. Gerry was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. Because family was so important to her, she always had an open heart and open door, and she helped raise some of her grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking, reading and camping with her family. By example, Geraldine instilled the importance of family to her children, and she leaves a rich legacy of loving and caring. Those left to cherish her precious memory are her husband, James Tucker; her children, Karen Brown, Jennifer Perry, Kathy (Michael) Pickett, Linda (Tommy) Davis, Debbie Tucker, Larissa Tucker, Cecil Toland Tucker; 20 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Elizabeth "Peter" Burnett, Cecile Walker, Betty Briscoe, Maimuna Mwamba, Eunice Toliver, Anne Toland, Maude Branic; and brother, Charles Toland. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; children, Richard and Patricia Tucker; siblings, Lois Jean Toland, Mary Alice Thompson, Zelda Frasier, Sandra Jean Toland, Lillian Modest, Cecil, Robert, James and Toland and William Thompson. Funeral service Friday morning at 11:30 at the Daly Funeral Home, Inc., 242 McClellan St., Schenectady. Calling hours 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Park View Cemetery.
