Obituary of Ruth Vaughn

Ruth A. Vaughn, 85, of Main St., died Saturday, October 23, 2010, at home after a short illness. Ruth was born in Schenectady, the daughter of Frank and Minnie Sisto Augusta. She was a graduate of Woestina High School, and a lifelong resident of Rotterdam Junction. She will be remembered as devoted to her family, husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Through the years, she worked in retail, starting at the Country Dollar in Rotterdam Junction, and retired from Macy's at Rotterdam Square. She enjoyed gardening, and especially baking and cooking at a time of need to help others. Ruth was a lifelong communicant of St. Margaret of Cortona Church, and was active with the planning of the 100th anniversary. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, John B. Vaughn, whom she married on October 17, 1948; three children, Linda Vaughn, John F. Vaughn, and Kevin (Rhonda) Vaughn; a brother, Joseph Augusta; seven grandchildren, Stacy (Ed) Billig, Deron (Laura) Vaughn, Jeffrey, Kathleen, Bridget, John E. Vaughn and Andrew Vaughn; four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her two brothers, Frank A. Augusta, III, and Floyd Augusta. Funeral service, Tuesday morning, 10 a.m. at St. Margaret of Cortona Church, Main Street, Rotterdam Junction, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours, Monday evening, 5 to 8 p.m. at the Daly Funeral Home, Inc., 242 McLellan St., Schenectady. Interment, St. Mary's Cemetery, Amsterdam. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Margaret of Cortona Church, 2 Putnam St., Rotterdam Junction, NY 12150. Her family expressed gratitude to daughter-in-law, Rhonda, for helping them through this difficult week, and to Ruth's nurse, Ken Glindmyer, for his kindness and care of Ruth.
