Ethel Winkler Ward SchenectadyEthel Winkler Ward, 97, of Van Cortlandt St., died Saturday, December 11, 2010, at home. Ethel was born in Schenectady, the daughter of Justus and Barbara Winkler. She was a graduate of St. Joseph's Academy. For many years she worked for the Schenectady Public Schools, retiring in 1982. She was an avid fan of the Yankees, loved family gatherings and her trips to the Saratoga Race Track. She was a lifelong communicant of St. Joseph's Church, at one time she was a member of the Rosary Society and a former PTA member of St. Joseph's Academy. She will always be remembered as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was married to Charles R. Ward; he died in 1986. Ethel is survived by six children, Barbara (Michael) Gillooley, Mary Alice (Donald) Fields, Richard (Susan) Ward, Janet Rapant (Frank Scaia), James Ward, and Dennis (Patricia) Ward; one brother, Karl Winkler; 22 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; several cousins and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Marguerite Curcio; and siblings, A. Marguerite Male, Henry Winkler and Jean Fonda. Funeral service Wednesday morning 10:30 at St. Joseph's Church (State and Lafayette Streets) where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours, Tuesday afternoon from 4 to 8 in the evening at the Daly Funeral Home, Inc., 242 McClellan St., Schenectady. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Schenectady.
