Elinor Weeks, 82, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 26, 2011, at Baptist Health and Retirement Center. Elinor was born in Schenectady the daughter of the late John and Doris Squires, grew up on North Ferry St. in the Stockade, sang in the choir at St. George's Church (oldest church in Schenectady), graduated from Nott Terrace High School, class of 1947, and was a lifelong area resident. She would spend her summers with her grandmother in Oneonta learning about the history of her mother's side of the family, including her great-grandfather, Horatio Perry, who fought in the Civil War in more than 20 engagements, including Gettysburg, with the 121st NY Regiment out of Cooperstown. As a young women, she helped her father, who owned a small stable of trotters and pacers that raced at Saratoga. She worked as a bookkeeper for Thriftway Market, Service Linen and the YMCA and more recently worked for Marshall's Department Stores. Elinor was an avid NY Yankee and NASCAR fan. She raised her sons between Aleda Dr. in Glenville and Chrane St. in Charlton and they would attend Burnt Hills High School. She would spend some her leisure time in Sacandaga with her boys and spent many years with the Melodears, a women's barber shop singing group. She is survived by her sons, Randy (Debbie), Jeff and Rich Leet and Brian (Judy) Weeks; grandchildren, Heather (Joe). Forgione-Leet and Tanya Leet; great-grandchildren, Joe Jr. and Sofia and former husband, Jack Leet. She was also very fond of Barry Leet and fiance, Kathy and had a longtime friendship with her sister-in-law, Wanda Leet; and her three daughters, Leslie, Allison and Mellissa. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her second husband, Tom Weeks. A graveside service will be held Wednesday 11 a.m. at Ballston Cemetery, 486 Garrett Rd., Ballston Spa, NY. Calling hours will be held Tuesday 6 to 8 p.m. at Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady.
