Sumter, SC - June J. Wheeler, 89, widow of Teddy Thomas Wheeler Sr., to whom she was married for 63 years, passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at the National Healthcare Center. Born in Schenectady, NY, she was the beloved daughter of the late Merrill L. Walrath and Grace Leonard Walrath. Mrs. Wheeler was a former resident of Stage Road Charlton, NY and moved to Sumter five years ago to be near her daughter, Dianne Trapini. Mrs. Wheeler was a devoted wife and mother and passed on her values to her seven children. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Glenville, NY and attended St. Anne Catholic Church, Sumter, SC. She was a member of the Volksporters Walking Club, the Schenectady Square Dance Club, and the Edison Golf Club. She was also a member of the Charlton Seniors Group and various bridge clubs. One of her greatest passions was maintaining a healthy body through nutrition and exercise. Surviving are three sons, Dr. Thomas E. Wheeler and his wife, Diane of Lewistown, PA, Andrew W. Wheeler and his wife, Susan of Sodus Point, NY and Teddy T. Wheeler Jr. of Bay Shore, NY; four daughters, Dianne E. Trapini and her husband, Theodore of Sumter, SC, Peggy S. Houde and her husband, Raymond of Katy, TX, Barbara W. Rangan and her husband, Kasturi of Escondido, CA, and June J. Murdock and her husband, Matthew of Scotia, NY; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by an infant son, John Merrill Wheeler; two brothers, Merrill Walrath and Glen Walrath. The family will receive friends at the Daly Funeral Home in Schenectady, NY on Friday, July 6, 2012 from 5 to 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, July 7, 2012 at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. J. Thomas Connery officiating. Burial will be in Sweetman Cemetery in Charlton, NY. The Wheeler and Trapini families wish to thank the staff of National Healthcare Center and Beacon Hospice for the excellent care and sensitivity shown to Mrs. Wheeler and her family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Beacon Hospice, 2635-A Hardee Cove, Sumter, SC 29150 or to Immaculate Conception Church, 400 Saratoga Road, Glenville, NY 12302. Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan Street, Schenectady, NY is in charge of the local arrangements.
