Mary "Bobby" O'Brien Winkler, 94, formerly of Robinson Street, passed away Tuesday morning, March 24, 2009, at the Heritage Home for Women (Union Street, Schenectady). Bobby was born in Schenectady on December 2, 1914, a daughter of the late John F. and Elizabeth O'Brien. She was educated in Schenectady and was a graduate of St. Joseph's Academy. Bobby earned a degree from the Mildred Elley Secretarial School and subsequently devoted her entire career to being a secretary. For many years she was employed by General Electric, Department of Motor Vehicles and NYS Department of Transportation. Bobby was a lifelong communicant of St. Luke's Church, where she was united in marriage to her late husband, Joseph H. Winkler on June 19, 1943. He later died June 20, 1998. Also predeceased by her brothers, John F. O'Brien and James O'Brien. Survivors include her dearly beloved children, James J. Winkler and his wife, Karen, of Clinton, NY, William J. Winkler and his wife, Nancy, of Schenectady, and Patricia Messineo and her husband, Patrick, of Amsterdam; loving grandchildren, Suzanne Winkler, Kerri Winkler, Joseph Winkler and his wife Jean, Michele Pezzano and her husband Ryan, Kathleen Winkler, Matthew Winkler, Christopher Messineo and his wife Jill, Eric Messineo and his wife Sandy, Scott Messineo and his wife Molly and Anne Messineo; 13 cherished great grandchildren; two dear sisters-in-law, Anna Winkler, and Lois Frame and her husband Donald; and several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan Street, Schenectady, Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral service Friday at noon from the Daly Funeral Home, then to St. Luke's Church, State Street, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Schenectady. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice. The Winkler family would like to greatly thank the wonderful staff of the Heritage Home in Schenectady for their loving care given to Bobby, since her arrival in 2007.
