Obituary of Louis Zampella

Louis D. Zampella, 83, died Dec. 10, 2011, surrounded by his loving family at Ellis Hospital. A lifelong resident of Schenectady, he was the son of Albert and Mary Zampella. A graduate of Nott Terrace High School, Louis faithfully served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy. Afterward, he married his beloved wife of 60 years, Pauline Kornacki, and raised three children (Sandra Catalano, retired Schenectady Det. Sgt. Arthur Zampella, and Eileen Zampella) while working 40 years for the City of Schenectady, most of which as the facility manager for the Police Dept. He was also the owner of the popular Little Italy restaurant "Casa Mia" during the 1980s. Louis was a Republican 9th Ward president and committeman for 25 years as well as a member of the Sons of Italy. His many interests included fishing, boating, shuffleboard, car restoration, and an undying love for his New York Mets. Inhis later years he enjoyed winters in Largo, FL. Most of all, however, he lived for his Sunday dinners with his family. He was a truly devoted family man. In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by five loving grandchildren (Rebecca, Steven, Travis, Aaron, andJennifer) and six great-grandchildren (Marissa, Kaylie, Kaitlin, Isabelle, Riley, and Paul). Funeral service will be Wednesday, 10 a.m., at St. John the Evangelist, 816 Union St., Schenectady. Calling hours will be Tuesday, from 5 to 8 p.m., at Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan Street, Schenectady.
