Obituary of Michael Masucci

Schenectady - Michael N. (Mike) Masucci, 87, passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2013. Born April 30, 1925 in Schenectady, Mike was the son of Domenico and Maria (Capparelli) Masucci. At the age of 18, Mike left school and enlisted in the Army. He was a construction machinist with the 1659th Engineered Division stationed in Europe during WWII. Discharged in 1946, he went to work for Kellem & Shaffer Construction Co. in Schenectady, running heavy machine equipment. In 1949, Mike went to work for Boulevard Rug in Schenectady, In January 1974, Mike purchased Ted's Floor Covering in Albany and was president until his retirement in 1987. Mike was a member of the Idaka Forum and the Young Business Bowling League. However, his two true passions were his Friday night poker games and golf. Mike was an original member of the Van Vranken Golf League, the oldest golf league at the Schenectady Municipal Golf Course. In 1960, Mike helped build Pinehaven Country Club and was one of the original stockholding members. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy (Cappello); his children, Michael (JoAnne) Masucci, Kathryn (Matthew) Thompson and Gerald Masucci; his grandchildren, Angela Masucci, Kirsten and Karyn Thompson, Maxwell, Griffin, Sally Masucci and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his siblings, Philomena (Patsy) LaPorta, Louis (Viola) Masucci, Antoinetta (Anthony) Palleschi and Angela (Joseph) DeFilippo. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 16, 8:45 a.m. at Daly Funeral Home, Inc., 242 McClellan St. and 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of Peach Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Friday evening, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Entombment in St. Cyrli & Method's Mausoleum, Rotterdam.
