Obituary of John Bollten JR

On Saturday, September 5, 2009, John Bollten, Jr., 82, of Palmer Ave., passed away peacefully at home, after a brief illness surrounded by his loving family. Born in Rockville Center, Long Island, he was a graduate of Hemstead High school. John served in the United States Navy during WWII and again during the Korean Conflict. He was a very active member of the NOAH Lodge #754 of Free and Accepted Masons in Altamont for close to 50 years. John was a past master and officer of the Grand Lodge of the state of New York. He was a Shriner and belonged to Cypress Temple of Albany for over 30 years. He was past president of Cypress Motor Patrol and rode motorcycles in parades and competitions until two years ago. He really loved his motorcycle! John worked as an auto mechanic for the Schenectady Army Depot and Webster Motors. John purchased Ives Vending service in 1964, which he owned and operated until he retired in 1988. In 1995, he went back to work part time for Enterprise Rent A Car until 2005. John is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jean Dingley Bollten; two sons, John Bollten (Cathy) of North Carolina and Richard Bollten of Middleburg; a sister, Margaret Lombard of Stephentown; and a brother, Henry Bollten (Betty) of Sarasota, FL. Also survived by two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, John Sr. and Louise; and a sister, Evelyn Fulton. Funeral service, Thursday mornning, 11 o'clock at the Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St. Calling Hours Wednesday evening 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, where the Masons will meet for a 6 o'clock service. Interment, Schenectady Memorial Park, Rotterdam. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Childrens Hospital, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL 33607 or Community Hospice, 1411 Union St., Schenectady.
