Niskayuna - Robert John Dybas (Bob) of Niskayuna, NY, passed into eternal life on March 19, 2013. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Mary Kruszewski Dybas of Amsterdam, NY. Bob was a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, School of Metallurgical Engineering, specializing in welding processes in Troy, NY. He was also a member of Phi Kappa Theta fraternity at the college. Other memberships included the GE Elfun Society, the GE Quarter Century Club and the GE Retired Employees Association. He was a life member of the American Welding Society and the American Society for Metals International. Bob was active on national committees and was chairman of the Northern NY Chapter of AWS. He received the GE Industrial and Power Systems Engineering Award and the American Welding Society Meritorious Certificate Award of the Northern NY Section. Bob also served in the military. He was honorably discharged as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He was a communicant of St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish(the former St. Helens) in Niskayuna. Bob also volunteered for many years as an usher. Bob is survived by his brother, the Reverend Richard W. Dybas of Niskayuna, his Aunt, Sister Mary Rose Kruszewski of Enfield, CT, and his loving wife, Alice E. Dybas. Alice and Bob were married in St. Peter's Church in Troy, NY on August 25, 1956. They have three sons, Robert O. of Chicago, IL, Stephen K. (Sharon) of Latham, NY and David (Monica) of Madera, CA and four grandchildren. Bob was a hands-on Dad, involved with his sons in photography, Boy Scouts, Junior Achievement and baseball. His favorite hobby was antique cars. At one time he had a '32 Ford Model B, a '48 Studebaker Champion, and a '50 Hudson Super 6. He was a member of the Hudson-Mohawk Antique Car Club and was the editor of its newsletter for many years. One of his favorite experiences was driving a young couple in the Hudson, to and from the church, on their wedding day. On April 1, 2013 there will be calling hours from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. for Bob at the Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady, NY. On April 2, 2013 at 9 a.m. a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish at 1803 Union Street, Schenectady, NY, 12309. Interment St Peter's Cemetery, Troy, NY. Memorial contributions may be made in Robert's name to the American Diabetes Association, 2 Pine West Plaza, Albany, NY 12205 or to American Heart Association, 440 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205.
