Obituary of Richard Mahoney

Richard C. Mahoney, 84, passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at Glendale Home. He was a lifelong Schenectady resident, graduate of Nott Terrace High School and Albany Jr Business College. Served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division. He was president of the former Mahoney Hardware Co where he had worked in the family business for more than 50 years. The store was closed in 1998 after 95 years. Dick was a member of the Schenectady Economic Development Corp, a board member of Schenectady Industrial Corp, a communicant of St. Kateri Tekakwitha Niskayuna and Blessed Sacrament Church Bolton Landing . He was predeceased by his brother, Robert, who died in WWII, his brother, Paul; and a sister, Helen Klocker. Survivors include his wife, Jane Jewett Mahoney, whom he married in 1954; a son, Bob Mahoney; and a daughter, Mary Mahoney; grandchildren, Brendan, Dallis and Sterling Mahoney. Also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral service Monday morning 8:30 from the Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St. and 9 at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church (Union St). Dick lost his long struggle with Parkinson's disease, he faced all the challenges incurred with this disease with such good humor and courage. We the family could not have asked for better care than he received at the Glendale Home. We will never forget the kindness and support shown by the staff on C-2, especially Kathy Vassari and Sue Rother.
