Obituary of Maria Cabral

SCHENECTADY - Maria Gomes Brites Cabral, 66, passed away peacefully at her home in Schenectady on April 4, 2013. Born in Arcozelo da Serra, Portugal on December 16, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Maria Madalena Brites and Manuel Goncalves Brites. She grew up in the Beiras region of central Portugal and moved to Pittsfield, Mass., in 1968 where she lived for 23 years, raising a family and maintaining a small slipcover and draperies business. She and her husband moved to Schenectady, in 1991. She was a devoted wife of 46 years, mother of two children, loving grandmother of two grandchildren, homemaker and widely recognized as an expert at making exquisite covers for furniture, windows and other hand-sewn and embroidered creations. She most recently worked with Calico Corners in Colonie before retiring in 2008. She will be remembered for her loving spirit and service to her church, family and everyone who knew her. She was the wife of Joaquim Cabral; devoted mother of Maria (Michael) Woodry of Clifton Park and Antonio (Claudia) Cabral of Clifton Park; grandmother of Ashley and Joshua Woodry. She is also survived by a large extended family of close cousins. Funeral service, Monday, April 8, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. from the Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady, and 11 a.m. at St Paul the Apostle Church where, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment, Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna. Calling hours, Sunday from 6 to 8.
