Obituary of Louise Waterman

Louise Hessney Waterman, 94, died April 2, 2013 in Monroeville, PA. Preceded in death by her husband, Edward Waterman; seven brothers; and three sisters. Loving mother of William (Mary Ann) Waterman of Centerville, GA, Karen (Brian) Teaman of Monroeville and Robert "Wyatt" (Caroline) Waterman of Schenectady. "Tita" to her seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Before moving to Monroeville in 2001, Louise was a 50-year resident of Schenectady. She earned her bachelor's degree in education ('40) and master's degree in library science ('58) at Albany State University. Louise taught at Nott Terrace High School, was New York State's first full-time librarian at the elementary school level, at Elmer Avenue (circa 1957-58) and retired from Linton High School in 1980. She also coordinated the children's library at St. George's Episcopal Church. Louise's community activities included: membership in the Schenectady Historical Society, Business and Professional Women (BPW), American Association of University Women (AAUW), plus volunteering at the psychiatric unit at Ellis Hospital and at Hallmark Nursing Home. Memorial Service and Inurnment 2 p.m., April 27, 2013 at St. George's Episcopal Church, 30 Ferry Street, Schenectady, NY 12305. Visitation during the two hours preceding the service (noon to 2 p.m.) In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Children's Department of the Schenectady County Public Library, 99 Clinton St., Schenectady, NY 12305; or to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104.
