Obituary of Raymond McLaughlin

Schenectady - Raymond "Mac" T. McLaughlin, 81, of Spruce St., died Saturday, May 4, 2013 at Ellis Hospital. Ray was born and educated in Albany. He was a U.S. Navy Korean War veteran. He moved to Schenectady in 1958 working as a police officer for the Schenectady Police Department, retiring after 30 years service as a detective in 1988. He was a hard working family man and had worked part time at several places including Ludlow Products, Reales and Goldstock's. Through the years he was a swimming instructor, Pop Warner assistant coach, a certified pistol sharp shooter and taught gun safety courses. He enjoyed sport activities with his family especially boating, snowmobiles and hunting. Mac is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lorraine Higgins McLaughlin; one son, Robert (Melinda) McLaughlin of Schenectady; a brother and sister, Patrick and Patricia McLaughlin; a granddaughter, Alana Slattery; nieces and nephews; and Cindy's companion, Fred Graham. He was predeceased by two children, Raymond and Cynthia McLaughlin; and siblings, Bill, Ed, Tom, and Agnes. Funeral service Friday 12 noon at the Daly Funeral Home, Inc., 242 McClellan St., Schenectady. Calling hours Friday mornign 10:30 to 12 at the funeral home. Interment St. Joseph's Cemetery, Schenectady, with military honors.
