Niskayuna - Joseph Charles Caprino, the loving husband of Georgia D. Caprino for 59 wonderful years, passed away after a long illness on May 13, 2013. His last days were spent at the Joan Nicole Prince Home in Scotia, NY. Joseph was predeceased by his siblings, Nancy, Anthony, Charles, and Thomas. Joseph is survived by his loving wife, Georgia D. Caprino of Niskayuna, NY; and his two daughters, Barbara Plante (Stephen), Reston, VA, and Kathy Caprino (Arthur Lipner), Wilton, CT. He has four loving grandchildren, Julia Lipner and Elliot Lipner, Wilton, CT, Kelsey Plante, Williamsburg, VA, and Ava Plante, Reston, VA. Joseph graduated from Marion Harding High School, class of 1938, where he was the star quarterback and scholar. Joseph served in the U.S. Army in Europe during WWII, rising to the rank of captain of the 656th Tank Destroyer Battalion. He graduated from The Ohio State University, class of 1950, where he majored in chemistry and was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa Society. Joseph began his career at General Electric in 1950 in Pittsfield, MA. He married Georgia Diamond of Pittsfield, MA, on January 17, 1954. Joseph moved to GE Silicones in Waterford, NY, and built a long and distinguished career as a chemist and later as a marketing and sales manager, earning seven patents in silicone rubber chemistry. Joseph was transferred to Chicago for several years, and returned to Schenectady in 1961. He travelled around the world with General Electric, teaching and training many in silicone rubber technology. An avid golfer, Joseph was an enthusiastic member of the Edison Club's Scratch League and Masters group for decades. He also served as tournament coordinator, a role he loved. In his later years, he enjoyed playing pool with his golf buddies. Joseph was known for his kindness, effervescent, fun-loving spirit, and love of life. Everyone who knew him, loved him. The Caprino family would like to thank the wonderful staff and volunteers at the Joan Nicole Prince Home, who worked tirelessly tending to Joseph and supporting Georgia during this most difficult time.
