Dear Rosemary and Family, I had the pleasure of meeting Jack when I joined the department in 1986. His welcoming smile (often referred to as "smilin Jack") and calm, confident demeanor made fitting into the organization so easy. A firefighter's firefighter, Jack was a model to be emulated. I very much enjoyed our discussions about computers and technology and the way he embrace it while others his age struggled. Always an optimist with that can do attitude he was just a pleasure to be around. I watched as Jack progressed into the senior membership of the department, thinking to myself "that is how its done!" He maintained his well respected presence, watched over us, offered insight and guidance when we needed it, but allowed us to grow, learn, and succeed. I am proud to have worked under him and am a better person for having known him. His presence here will be missed but not forgotten. May he rest in peace and may your memories of Jack bring you a smile now and then....I know mine will. Take Care and God Bless Dale Lingenfelter Fire Chief Niskayuna Fire District No. 1

I met Jack in 1973 when I started work as a firefighter. I worked my way through the ranks for 33 years and Jack was always there to help me for all of those 33 years. He was fearless and intelligent and always there to guide and mentor. I went into many fires with Jack and on those occasions that I did I knew the outcome would be okay because of Jack's presence. When I would arrive on the scene of an emergency, just seeing he was there would give me a feeling of confidence that things would go right. He did all this without ever making anyone feel inferior or ill-prepared for the job at hand. He was a teacher who never had a bad thing to say about anyone. He was an energetic and unselfish public servant who did what needed to be done with an ever present smile. Jack loved his family and spoke of Rosemary and his children on many occasions. He spoke of his other interests as well. His church service, the air museum, boat building, on and on. When you knew Jack it wasn't just Jack the firefighter, it was Jack the Man! I am proud and privileged to have known him! I will miss him. My condolences to Rosemary and his entire family.

My sincere condolences to my Aunt Rosemary, John, Bob, Peter. My heart is very heavy with the passing of my Uncle Jack. He was a wonderful man! He took our family to the Empire State Aeroscience Museum and he gave us the grand tour. He made it interesting and fun. I have so many fond memories of his kind and witty demeanor. He will deeply be missed! Best Regards, Jessica Snyder

Although Jack may be absent from us in the here and now, only good memories remain. He was a great guy and always could be depended on for a humorous story and positive outlook. We will be watching for his "flyovers" as he watches over his family and friends from on high.
