Porter Corners - James A. Melanson, 61, of Ormsbee Rd., died Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at home peacefully, after a long battle with cancer. Jim was born in Troy, the son of Armand and Ruth Melanson. He was a graduate of Linton High School, class of 1970. He joined the Air Force as a medic. After returning to Schenectady he worked as a nurse at St. Clare's Hospital for 20 years, then began his own successful home remodeling business, I Do That. Jim embraced life, was interested in all the world around him and will be remembered for his unique creativity and his intense devotion for family. He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Needle Melanson; two children, James A. (Stacy) Melanson II and Mariah Carol MacQueen; one sister, Suzanne (Steven) Melanson Hartz; five grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and beloved lifelong friends and extended family. Funeral service Thursday morning 10:15 from the Daly Funeral Home, Inc., 242 McClellan St., Schenectady and 11 a.m. at St. George's Episcopal Church ( N. Fery St., Schenectady) where a requiem Mass will be celebrated. Calling hours Wednesday afternoon 4 to 7 in the evening at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Saratoga, 179 Lawrence St., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
