Obituary of Irene Van Kamerik

Niskayuna - Irene Van Kamerik, 92, of Niskayuna, NY died peacefully at home after a period of illness on Tuesday, July 9, 2013. Born on March 24, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Victoria Ruminiecki. Irene was predeceased by her late husband, John G. Van Kamerik; three brothers, Edward, Chester and Thomas; two sisters, Dorothy Chinek and Eleanor Zalucki. She is survived by her sister, Genevieve Freer; two daughters, Sharon Lawrence and her husband, Joseph, Linda Baquero; one son, John Van Kamerik Jr. and his wife, Bonny. Irene had seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Irene was a graduate of Mont Pleasant High School and worked for Ter Bush & Powell and Trustco Bank. She was a member of the former Schenectady Women's Club and one of the founding members of Saint Kateri Tekakwitha Parish formerly known as Our Lady of Fatima, where she was was a longstanding member of the choir, the Bingo Committee, the Social Committee and until recently coordinated the Sunday collections. Irene was a member of the Niskayuna Senior Citizen's Center and cheerfully volunteered for many causes throughout her life. Funeral service, Saturday morning, 9:15 from the Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St. and 10 at St. Kateri Tekakwitha (Rosa Rd.) where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours are Friday evening, July 12, from 6 to 8. Interment will be at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
