Schenectady - Bernard L. Amell, 82, of Parkwood Blvd., died Monday, July 29, 2013, at Ellis Hospital, after a long illness.
Bernie was born in Faust, NY, the son of Andrew and Emma Amell. He moved to Schenectady as a child and was a graduate of St. Columba High School. He worked as an electrician at the Knolls Atomic Power Lab, retiring in 1991, later working for Spectrum Technology. He had also served in the National Guard and later in the Army Reserve, earning the rank of SGT. He has been a member of the General Electric Quarter Century Club and a communicant of St. Mary's Church and St. Joseph's Church.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 61 years, Marion Kownacki Amell.
Ten children, Theresa (Charles) Feathers, Victoria Barber, Angela (Charles) Stewart, Anthony Amell, Bernard (Victoria) Amell, Lorraine (Robert) Littauer, Joyce (William) Amell-Kotas, Kenneth (Kathy) Amell, Christine Amell, Francine (Mark) Schoonmaker, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Bernie was predeceased by his eight brothers and sisters.
Funeral service, Thursday morning, 9:15 from the Daly Funeral Home, Inc., 242 McClellan St., Schenectady and 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours, Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 at the funeral home. Interment, Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph's Church Restoration Fund, 225 Lafayette St., Schenectady, NY 12305.
