Punta Gorda, FL - Shirley Rose (Pipe) Van Patten, 86, of Punta Gorda, FL, formerly of Schenectady, NY, passed away Saturday morning, July 27, 2013 after a long illness. Shirley graduated from Nott Terrace High School and then Spencer Business School in 1973. Shirley was an active Ladies Auxiliary member for many years with the Schenectady VFW Post 357, serving as the president for a short period of time before moving to Florida. She was a homemaker who devoted her life to her family and especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Harry Van Patten; daughter, Ellen (Aaron) Wagner; and son, Richard Van Patten; four grandchildren, Angela (Ken) Spink, Gregory (Janeen) Horlbeck, Tammy Van Patten and Frank (Vicky Nolan) Van Patten; two great-grandchildren, Stephen Mix and Brandi Volans. She was predeceased by her son, Frank Van Patten in 1977. The funeral service will be Friday, 9 a.m. at Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady. Calling hours will be Thursday 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Park View Cemetery.
