Obituary of John Vaughn

Rotterdam Junction - John "Burt" Vaughn, 88, of Main St. died Tuesday, August 27, 2013, at home. John was born in Fruita, Colorado, the son of John and Zillah Elliott Vaughn, and was a graduate of Fruita High School. He was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran, moving to the Schenectady area in 1945. John started at General Electric in the apprentice program, retiring in 1987 with 41 years service. He had taken several classes at Union College, enjoyed bowling, was an avid gardener, loved the outdoors and bird watching. John was an active communicant of St. Margaret of Cortona Church. He was predeceased by his wife, Ruth Augusta Vaughn; she died in 2010. He is survived by three children, Linda Vaughn and Kevin (Rhonda) Vaughn of Rotterdam Jct. and John Vaughn of Wethersfield, CT; a sister, Anna Kathryn Hoback of Grand Jct, CO; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister and brother, Eleanor Leggiero and Alvin Vaughn. Funeral service Saturday morning 9 o'clock at St. Margaret of Cortona Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours Friday evening 5 to 8 at the Daly Funeral Home, Inc., 242 McClellan St., Schenectady. Interment St. Mary's Cemetery, Amsterdam, with military honors.
